Neither the longbowman british or the heavy cavalry french were nations during this time. Assuming that the game follows a simular timeline to Real life, that would mean warband takes place somewhere around the end of the dark ages, or between 600 and 800 real life time. The devs have stated that Bannerlord will be about the fall of the calradiac empire ( AKA, the fall of rome) and that it takes place 200 years before warband. What people forget is that france was apart of the early HRE (back in the days of charlemagne) Another interesting point is the games timeline. Unlike what alot of people think, the swagians were not neccissarily french, but more holy roman. So "inspired by" and "loosely based on" is more or less all there is to it. Most obviously, in terms of weapon and armor technology. The Vaygir is Slavian(Boyar), but there are probably some other inspirations from other nations as well.Īside from geographical and cultural regions, I also believe they have picked from different timespans. The Rhodoks, being a break-away/secluded faction(swiss/scottish/welsh) and highly independent(italian city states). You could possibly also draw parallels to the holy roman empire(germanian) being surrounded by the other nations. The Swadians have a focus on Chivalry and knights, much like English and especially French and "German"(not german, but you know, same area). There is definately some inspirations in historical factions and nations, but the are not cut out and put in directly. Originally posted by Charles Vane:With a lot of the factions, I think the response is just "yes." Do the Rhodoks show similarities to Swiss? Yes. That is if this post is actually about native. Also, if we're honest now, all factions in the game are fantasy, similarities are there, but they're still fantasy so there's no point in arguing, really The tricky part is that you could assosciate Rhodok infantry to any other Western European, give or take a few weapon differences, and armor. However, the 'rebel' theme the rhodoks got, and some of their clothing show there's Welsh/Scottish influence to them as well. It was pretty much the main point of the shield's design. Most notably the Board shields which look just like Pavise shields which is the ultimate shield for crossbowmen, sadly in native you can't put the shield into the ground. Rhodoks: Their weaponry certainly is similar to what Italians used back then, the Swiss too to some extent. Swadian horsemen widely use lances, so did the Germans and the French. Weaponry and armor suggest the main influence is from the Germans and French. Swadia: many suggest the name comes from Swabia, southern region in Germany.Īrguably the whole faction is Duchy of Swabia dyed to red and the letter B replaced with D. Sarranid Sultanate: Sassanid's, obviously. Though Vikings didn't use heavy armor as widely as Nords do here in m&b. Note how the name is very similar to the Merkits, one of the Mongol tribes. Khergit Khanate: Asian tribes and clans, most notably the Mongols. Looks like all of the in-game factions got their influence from different cultures back in medieval age. I would add Swiss to Italians for Rhodoks Vaegirs - Based off of Russia and similar countries. Nords - Scandinavian and Viking inspirations. Heavily horse-based, much like the Huns and Mongols. They're referred to as a Khanate, after all. Khergits - Based off of the Turks and Mongols. Geographical location and topography support the mountainous northern borders of Italy. Rhodoks - Heavily inspired by Italians, but sadly no traces of the Western Roman Empire :c. Generally based off of organized Northern African and Eastern countries. Sarranids - Their name is obviously based off of the Dark Age Sassanids, and take their structure from Arabians/Egyptians. In Native there are no longbows for this faction, but the look of their cavalry heavily reflect that of Medieval England/France. Swadia - Relations to England and France.
